Harley Davidson Clothes: How to Dress like a Biker

When I was in college our sorority had an annual Harley party, which meant everyone had to come dressed in biker chic. It was always a scramble to the nearest Harley Davidson store to stock up on denim and leather and see who could put together the most authentic looking Harley Davidson clothes.

Fortunately, Harley Davidson makes so many different biker fashions that no two bikers looked the same. With Harley Davidson clothes there are as many different looks as there are riders.

For the more conservative Harley woman, soft lambskin jackets in pastel shades and traditional blazer cuts look stylish and sophisticated. Denim jackets and nylon jackets with fur hoods are another modern alternative to black leather. There are plenty of Harley Davidson clothes for the diva with tee shirts and tanks featuring rhinestone logos, grommets and studs.

Then there are the items that we typically associate with Harley Davidson clothes: leather vests with or without fringe, sheer bodysuits with strategically placed logos, camisoles and panty sets, and of course black leather jackets and pants with logos and fringe.

And that’s just the women! There are just as many Harley Davidson clothes available for men. The black leather jacket seems to dominate the men’s scene with black leather gloves and boots rounding out the ensemble. A pair of black glasses adds an air of mystery and for the truly daring; leather chaps show you mean business.

Children can also enjoy dressing in Harley Davidson clothes with tee shirts, jackets and rain suits made especially for them.

If your going to ride you really should ride in style. No one has ever seen a guy in Bermudas and a polo shirt mounting a Harley have they? Harley Davidson clothes at least let you look like you know what you’re doing, even if you are a novice rider.

Harley Davidson Apparel From Head to Toe

You can’t truly be a Harley Davidson fan unless you can outfit yourself from head to toe in Harley Davidson apparel.

Harley Davidson Apparel From Head to Toe

Harley Davidson is well aware that it’s a top of the line, well-known motorcycle operation and it’s not afraid to commercialize that fact. Harley Davidson company has enough clothing choices to outfit any man, woman or child. From headgear all the way down to riding boots, this apparel can cover users literally from head to toe.

Starting at the top, Harley has designed several different Harley Davidson hats. There are pink hats for the girly riders, camouflage hats for the military enthusiasts and traditional Harley insignia bandanas for the every day rider. Headgear also includes thin beanies that can be warn under a rider’s helmet as well as wrap around bandanas to keep hair out of the rider’s eyes.

Harley also has an extensive line of Harley Davidson apparel that’s supposed to be worn under the rider’s clothes to keep them warm. Harley’s warm under clothing wear is called Skinny wear. Skinny wear is skintight. It keeps the rider warm because it’s made of thermal fabrics. Skinny wear is also a very breathable material. This allows sweat to dry quickly, which will also keep the rider warm. Harley likes these garments because they’re warm, but they’re not bulky. In fact, they’re really small and don’t take up much room in a travel pack.

Of course Harley has all of the apparel typically associated with Harley Davidson riders. This includes leather jackets, leather pants, leather wallets, military style boots and leather vests. You can add patches to any of these items to spruce them up and make them look even more Harley Davidsonish.

Harley Davidson apparel also includes accessories such as belts. The company produces both women’s and men’s belts. It also has some belts for children. Harley Davidson also produces traveling gear such as backpacks, fanny packs and purses.

What’s Up with the Leather?

Not all bikers wear leather when they ride, but most of them do. Bikers don’t wear leather just because it looks cool or because Harley Davidson promotes it. They wear leather because it’s a more protective material.

Leather is more effective at protecting motorcycle riders’ skin in accidents than other materials. Leather doesn’t rip as easily so it provides better protection between the rider and the road than most other materials. To help your leather gear protect you from road burn, you need to keep you leather in great shape. Make sure to protect from the elements by spraying it with leather sealant. You should regularly condition the leather to keep it from drying out. Dry leather weakens the material, making it more prone to ripping.

You’ll be able to find plenty of leather Harley Davidson apparel at any surrounding Harley Davidson stores or by visiting the Harley Davidson Web site.

Making a Statement with Harley Davidson Patches

Harley Davidson patches have both aesthetic and practical uses. Aesthetically they add a little decoration to plain motorcycle clothing and spice up the dark black backdrop of most motorcycle gear.

Decorative Harley Davidson patches come in all different styles and sizes. You can get a patch with the standard Harley Davidson emblem. You can also find a patch that has the emblem with flames intertwined in it. Patches of skulls, bikes and flames are also popular Harley Davidson patches. If you don’t find a patch you like, you can get one custom made. One common custom-made patch is an “in memory of patch.” These can be designed for riders who have lost a friend on the road.

Many of these Harley Davidson patches have reflective shields on them. This technology makes the rider more visible to other drivers at night. The lights from other drivers hit the shields, which reflect back to the driver. It’s a good idea to get Harley Davidson patches with reflective shields if you plan on doing a lot of night driving.

Practically Speaking About Harley Davidson Patches

Aside from protecting you at night and looking cool, Harley Davidson patches serve another, less glamorous purpose. Before patches became decoration, they covered holes in clothing. They can still be used to cover holes in clothing. If you have a small rip in one of your riding jackets or pants, take the patch and jacket to a tailor. Tailors are skilled at fixing such blemishes. Make sure you get a patch that’s much bigger than the tear or it will be difficult or impossible for the tailor to cover the hole.

The possibility of adding patches to an otherwise bland black jacket is attractive to many riders and may prevent them from getting a more decorative jacket that isn’t as safe. This is another advantage to Harley Davidson patches. Harley Davidson riders usually buy black leather riding gear. Leather is a great material to wear on the open road because it’s more durable than other types of fabric. It’s less likely to rip if the motorcyclist falls off the bike. Obviously, this can prevent the person from certain surface injuries. Being able to add patches to black jackets, pants and chaps allows the biker to add some individuality to an otherwise homogenous getup.

Where to Put Your Harley Patch

You can put your Harley Davidson patches anywhere you want to. You can put them over holes in your clothing or you can add them as decoration. Common places to put a patch include the back and front of a jacket and the front of a bandana. Harley Davidson patches can also be added to travel gear such as backpacks and fanny packs.
